Colonel Doniphan found Mr. Spiegelberg's services very helpful, as he was well-educated and had quite some experiences, so he persuaded him to assist him and he remained a year. Then Colonel Doniphan obtained for him a federal permit and he opened a general merchandise wholesale and retail store in Santa Fe in 1846.

Many came in search of spiritual and artistic nourishment. And those born in the Southwest endured the inescapable violence and cultural clashes of their times. Published her children's novel, Princess Goldenhair and the Wonderful Flower, which was adopted for radio broadcast on the CBS program, ''Let's Pretend" in 1937. This novel saw three editions.
