For the most part, the expedition failed to accomplish its official tasks. The two vessels left Petropavlosk (Avacha Bay) in Kamchatka on June 4, 1741. This development gave the advantage to merchants with larger amounts of capital. By 1780 the smaller venture was becoming obsolete. Thereafter the fur hunting and America-finding activity of the Russians fell into the hands of five big merchant capitalists. Finding America 19 Most notable was the first permanent company in the North Pacific fur trade, organized by the Irkutsk merchants Grigorii Shelikhov and Ivan Golikov in 1781.
